For the Lahu, coffee isn’t just a job. It’s part of who they are. It’s a family legacy, a tradition woven into the fabric of their community. For the hill tribe we work with, it all started with a father and daughter duo who shared a passion for the rich, earthy coffee flavors that their hillside can produce.
“Coffee farming is special,” the daughter told us. “Unlike other crops, green coffee beans can be stored longer without chemicals. That gives us the freedom to sell when the time is right. Roasting our own coffee lets us share the unique flavors of Doi Mod.”
That flexibility empowers them to craft their coffee with care. While preserving the authentic taste of their land. And that’s exactly what they do. Every batch is roasted by hand, with love and intention. This isn’t mass-produced. It’s handcrafted coffee, literally made with love.
Thai Coffee Grown in Sustainably in Chiang Mai
Located under a natural canopy of towering trees, their Arabica coffee grows sustainably and in harmony with their surrounding nature. No chemicals. No shortcuts. Just sun, soil, and hands that know exactly when each cherry is ready to be picked.
Once harvested, the process is 100% natural: de-pulped, soaked overnight, washed, sun-dried, and finally roasted.
Whether you’re into a fruity, floral, and balanced medium roast, or prefer a bold, smoky French roast, every batch reflects the Lahu’s dedication and the wild, beautiful character of Doi Mod’s hills.
A Dream Between Father & Daughter
At the heart of this particular coffee of ours lies a beautiful story and bond between a father and daughter. Their shared love for coffee became a mission to share the flavors of their land. While they originally crafted this coffee for their community and the people around Chiang Mai, we knew it deserved a bigger stage. So together, we set out to bring it beyond the hills to coffee lovers across Thailand and, eventually, the world.
“Coffee farming is a family passion, especially between my dad and me,” the daughter told us.“We hope to pass it down to future generations. By roasting each batch ourselves, we add a personal touch. Sharing the unique flavors of our land and our story. We just hope people can feel the love we put into it.”
Their motivation runs deep, fueled by a desire to honor their heritage and create something lasting. This harmony with nature means smaller harvests, but it also means thriving land for generations to come.
One thing that personally touched me (Susan here!) is when one farmer shared this beautiful sentiment with us:
