Our Visit to Doi Chaang Coffee Farm Was…

Doi Chaang Coffee Farm - A Spectacular Story of a coffee farmer who broken away from corporate coffee beasts - coffee culture thailand

Most people know Doi Chaang coffee. Very few people know Doi Chang the village. We stopped there for one night on our way to the Pang Khon farms and left with one of the most memorable conversations of the entire trip. A minimart stop that was supposed to take ten minutes. A farmer with twenty to thirty tonnes of coffee a year and a story about the day he walked away from every corporate contract he had. And a sky full of stars that made it very hard to go to bed.

Our Journey to the Pang Khon Coffee Farms, Chiang Rai - coffee culture thailand

This was the last farm on our 2026 northern Thailand trip. After an overnight in Doi Chaang, a farewell to a puppy named Look Chin and a road that disappeared into a stream, we arrived at the Pang Khon arabica coffee farms in Chiang Rai. This is the story of how we got there.

This is the origin story of one of our most distinctive Chiang Mai coffees, told from the middle of a forest that smelled, impossibly, of cinnamon.

At The End Of The Road, The Lahu Hill Tribe Community Of Doi Mod, Chiang Rai

Some roads make you wonder whether you’re still heading in the right direction. With every winding turn and narrowing stretch of road, you start questioning whether there is really anything waiting for you ahead. Yet something in your heart tells you to keep going…

A Road To Khun Chang Khian – Our Smallhold Family Farmers

Trip To Khun Chang Khian

There is a single lane road that winds up through the forest into a small village perched high in the mountains of Chiang Mai. The air smells of pine, moss and something else. A sweetness you cannot quite put a finger on. We later realised what it was. Coffee berries. This is the story of our 2026 visit to Khun Chang Khian, home to the Hmong hill tribe community and the coffee that started it all.
