Chumphon Robusta
Sourced from the southern region of Thailand, Chumphon is best known for its bold, earthy, and unapologetic Robusta coffee, grown in ideal low-altitude, coastal conditions. With its rich, nutty undertones, thick crema, and a touch of bitterness, Chumphon Robusta is a favorite for strong espresso and traditional Thai coffee drinks.
What to Expect from Your Arabica-Robusta Blend
By blending Khun Chang Khian Arabica and Chumphon Robusta, you control the balance between sweetness and strength. Here’s a guide to what you can expect across the spectrum of ratios (5% to 95% Arabica, with Robusta as the remainder), all in 5% increments. The roast level you choose:
- Medium (bright and acidic),
- Medium Dark (balanced and smooth),
- Or Dark (rich and bold),
Will further shape the flavor, but the ratio sets the foundation.
High Robusta Blends (5% to 30% Arabica / 95% to 70% Robusta)
- Ratios: 5/95, 10/90, 15/85, 20/80, 25/75, 30/70
- Flavor Profile: Dominated by the bold, earthy, and nutty character of Chumphon Robusta. Expect a strong, intense espresso with a thick crema, pronounced bitterness, and a deep, roasted nut flavor. The small amount of Arabica adds subtle hints of sweetness or fruitiness, softening the edge slightly.
- Best For: Espresso lovers who crave a powerful, traditional Italian-style shot with a kick. Ideal for dark roasts to amplify the robust depth.
- Example: A 10/90 blend (10% Arabica / 90% Robusta) might taste like a bold, nutty espresso with just a whisper of floral sweetness.
Balanced 50 | 50 ratio coffee blend overall taste remains bold but with increasing smoothness.
- Best For: Those who want a versatile espresso that works well in lattes, cappuccinos, or straight shots. Medium roasts shine here for balance.
- Example: A 50/50 blend offers a harmonious mix of nutty depth and sweet, fruity notes, perfect for a well-rounded espresso.
High Arabica Blends (65% to 95% Arabica / 35% to 5% Robusta)
- Ratios: 65/35, 70/30, 75/25, 80/20, 85/15, 90/10, 95/5
- Flavor Profile: The sweet, floral, and fruity notes of Khun Chang Khian Arabica take center stage, delivering a smooth, aromatic espresso with chocolatey undertones. The Robusta adds a touch of body and crema, keeping the espresso structured without overpowering the delicate flavors. Higher Arabica ratios lean toward a refined, specialty-coffee experience.
- Best For: Coffee aficionados who love nuanced, aromatic espressos with vibrant flavors. Light or medium roasts highlight the fruitiness and florals.
- Example: An 80/20 blend (80% Arabica / 20% Robusta) offers a silky, floral espresso with berry notes and a hint of nutty depth.
