Making a coffee with an espresso machine requires dedication, patience, and consistency, but it’s not as difficult as you think! So if you are looking to buy an espresso machine and wondering how to make a coffee with your espresso coffee machine, you have landed on the right blog.

We are here to make it easier for you, take a look at our simple step by step coffee brewing guide. With a few tips and tricks to understand how you can tweak your cup of coffee to taste the way you enjoy it most. Like we always say there is no ONE TYPE of coffee, each cup can be adjusted to change the taste it brews out.

1. Let Your Machine Heat Up

Turn on your espresso coffee machine to allow it to heat up the water.

2. A Warm Coffee Cup

Make sure to warm your coffee cup before using it. It’s as simple as running it under hot water right before you make the espresso. This will help keep your freshly brewed coffee nice and hot. Some espresso machines does come with a cup warmer on the top of the machine, and this is the very reason why they have it. ^_^

3. Clean and Dry Portafilter & Basket

Before making a coffee with the espresso machine make sure that your portafilter & basket (see below the photo of what these parts are) are both clean and dry. At the end of every use we recommend to take the basket out of the holder and clean the basket’s inside and underside (where the coffee drips out from. This will help brew a much more tasty and flavourful cup of coffee.)

4. Best Cup Of Coffee Is Freshly Ground

Ideally the best way to make a delicious and aromatic cup of coffee is to freshly grind your coffee beans. This is one of the reasons why every coffee shop has a coffee grinder on spot. If not you can use a fine ground coffee as well which is easily found at the stores as well as online. Dose your ground coffee into the portafilter.

5. Distribute The Coffee Grounds

Tap the portafilter hand extremely gently on the tamp mat as this will help distribute the ground coffee easily.

6. Tamp The Coffee

Using a coffee tamper, tamp your coffee. Then apply a light amount of pressure to compact your coffee. Make sure to do this twice. By tamping the coffee, the water won’t be able to easily escape, instead it will soak up all the flavours. TIPS: It’s important to place the handle on a tamping pad, stand or a clean surface

7. Rinse The Coffee Machine Head

Rinse the group head before inserting the portafilter into the coffee machine. This will help remove any old coffee grounds that may be stuck.

8. Make The Espresso

Insert the portafilter into the group head of the espresso machine and press that magic button to start brewing your coffee. For many espresso machines you’ll need to know when to stop. This is where a measuring cup can be handy for those who’d like to make a perfect cup of fresh coffee. Take a look here at our guide to the different amount of coffee you’d need for an espresso, an americano, a latte and more.

That’s it! Now you can enjoy that delicious freshly brewed cup of coffee anytime. If you’d like to know how you can tweak your coffee so it tastes the way you want it to.
